2010 Team Outlook: Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions: It has been a very long time since the Lions made the playoffs or where even good for that matter. Since 2000, 10 different quarterback have started and none of them has had much success. After drafting quarterback Matthew Stafford the Lion are looking to buck the QB carousel trend and start winning some games. Despite what many people think, Stafford had a good rookie season, just compare his stats to Mark Sanchez's and you'll see that they are almost identical. Overall the goal is very simple for the Lions: get a little better at every position and eek out a few more wins. This can be done by keeping Stafford upright and giving him a few more weapons. Detroit hopes they've found a star in rookie running back Javid Best out of Cal. He's small, fast and shifty. He should be able to give the offense some much needed punch. Calvin Johnson is a big time receiver and would be an even bigger star if he played for another team. In order to get him some help the Lions signed Nate Burelson to a long term deal and also brought in tight end Tony Scheffler, who has shown the ability to be a pass-catching threat.
Defensively the team is very young and athletic. The line should be a force with Kyle Vanden Bosch coming over from Tennessee lining up next to the second overall pick Ndumokong Suh. If these two can put consistent pressure on the quarterback, things should be a lot easier for the backers and secondary.
The Lions will more than likely finish at the bottom of the division but they should make significant strides this season.
Key pickups: Running Back Javid Best, Defensive Tackle Ndumokong Suh, Defensive End Kyle Vanden Bosch
Key Losses: Quarterback Dante Culpepper, Linebacker Larry Foote
the Lions has been and alway will be the graveyard for the nfl
